Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) Jesus Nation Church leader Prophet Shepherd Bushiri has sued United Kingdom- based musician Peter Sambo for allegedly posting defamatory remarks about him on social media.
In a statement on his Facebook page, Bushiri says he has instructed his lawyers in the United Kingdom to commence legal proceedings against Sambo creator of tracks ‘Tachilowa’ and ‘Monga Mufunira’.
“The matter will proceed before the High Court in London. This is no longer a back-and-forth on social media. It is now a legal process, and it will run its full course,” Bushiri said.
According to Bushiri, If found guilty, Sambo, may be held liable for damages of up to £50,000, about K117 million for the harm caused to him and his family.
Bushiri, who is also the visionary behind Goshen City Trust, said his legal team would pursue all remedies available under United Kingdom law and that if he fails to satisfy the judgment, all necessary enforcement mechanisms available will be fully pursued.
He said that being outside Malawi does not place anyone beyond accountability.
Bushiri has also instructed his lawyers in the country to take action against Robert Chisambiro and his associates, for his alleged publications on social media platforms such as Manna News Online, Ndizaulura and Nkhanga Zawona.
Bushiri said some of those involved are already on bail but have not taken the legal consequences seriously.
“Even anonymous or fake accounts will be identified and held accountable. God blessed me with resources not only to uplift others but also to defend myself. Reputation matters and actions have consequences,” he added.
Bushiri, known for his philanthropic activities, told Times Exclusive programme on Times Television that he would sue anyone who attempts to tarnish his reputation.
